Enhanced Views & Smarter Data!
We’re excited to announce a significant update to Nova DSO Tracker, bringing you a more organized interface and richer information to help plan your astrophotography sessions!
What’s New in Version 2.7.0:
New Layout: We’ve reorganized the main data table!
Now, alongside the familiar content of the new “Position” tab, you’ll find a new “Properties” tab. This dedicated view displays key physical characteristics of your deep-sky objects, including:
- Object Type (e.g., Galaxy, Nebula, PN, SNR)
- Magnitude
- Angular Size (‘)
- Surface Brightness (SB)
These fields are now filterable and sortable, giving you more power to find the perfect targets for your imaging sessions.
Improved Data for Your Objects:
The backend data fetcher has been enhanced to more reliably retrieve these important object properties. While the data comes from various astronomical catalogs (SIMBAD, VizieR) and our fallback (Stellarium), we’re working to make this even more comprehensive.
Better Configuration Experience:
When using the “Fetch Missing Details” button on the configuration page, you’ll now get a confirmation prompt with an estimated time, as this process can take a while.
UI & UX Refinements:
Indicators for sorting
We believe these changes will make Nova DSO Tracker an even more valuable tool for your astronomical pursuits. As always, your configuration data (including these new fields) is stored locally in your config_*.yaml
file.

- A Docker image will be available upon release.
We’re committed to making Nova DSO Tracker better with each update. Let us know your feedback!
Happy Observing! The Nova Tracker Team
